The Global Governance of Migration and Asylum: Risk, Uncertainty and Mess Management, presented by Anna Triandafyllidou

04 mars 2020

What is the global governance of migration? Why is it emerging? Which are the major institutions and actors involved? Can we distinguish between the global governance of migration and that of asylum? And is there such a thing as an orderly, safe and regular migration? Anna Triandafyllidou’s talk will comment on why and how the global governance of migration-and-asylum (hyphenated on purpose) is emerging today under a blueprint that emphasizes orderly, safe, regular flows when the reality is that most flows are disorderly, unsafe, and partly regular or indeed largely unauthorized. She will discuss how the global governance of migration and asylum is inscribed in the paradigm of risk society and why we need to go beyond this paradigm acknowledging uncertainty and rethinking migration and asylum governance as ‘mess management’.

The event is free and open to all! Join us on March 4th from 3:30 – 5:00 pm to dig into a topic that demands urgent attention from academic and political actors across the globe.
