SUMMARY:Workshop: Quantitative research on international migration: current developments and data sources\, led by Thomas Soehl & Ian Van Haren
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will provide an overview to new and established sources of data to study international migration and migrants. We will cover recent developments in the use of linked administrative data\, surveys\, digital trace data and more presenting examples from a variety of contexts. We will also discuss key conceptual and methodological challenges when studying international migration with these kinds of data. The second part will introduce a variety of Canadian data on immigration trends\, including the Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) and the federal government’s Open Data initiative. Participants will receive a broad introduction to these data sources with a few hands-on exercises to demonstrate their utility. \n The event is beginner-friendly and will contain helpful tips on accessing and using data sources for research projects. \nJoin us February 14th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm for this fascinating workshop. This interactive event will be conducted in English\, the facilitators can also answer questions in French. Please bring your laptop.
