DESCRIPTION:L’Institut de recherche sur les migrations et la société (IRMS) vous convie à la conférence “Du départ à l’appartenance: technologies numériques\, pouvoir d’agir\, contrôle et exclusion dans les trajectoires migratoires” qui aura lieu à l’Université Concordia du 20 au 22 mai 2026. \nCette conférence examine l’influence des technologies numériques avancées (TN) sur le parcours des migrants tout au long de leur trajet\, en reconnaissant que ces technologies ne sont pas seulement des outils utilisés par les migrants\, mais qu’elles constituent elles-mêmes des facteurs déterminants dans les décisions et les schémas migratoires. De la collecte d’informations avant la migration et le franchissement des frontières jusqu’à l’installation et la participation civique\, les technologies numériques font office à la fois de ponts et d’obstacles\, d’outils de libération et d’instruments de contrôle. \nVeuillez noter que la conférence aura lieu en anglais. Inscriptions et programme détaillé ici \n—- \nThis conference examines how advanced digital technologies (ADTs) influence migrant journeys across their entire trajectory\, recognizing that digital technologies are not merely tools used by migrants but are themselves drivers of migration decisions and patterns. From pre-migration information gathering and border crossings to settlement and civic participation\, digital technologies serve as both bridges and barriers\, tools of liberation and instruments of control. \nThe discussions will address how ADTs mediate every stage of migration: \n\nPre-migration: Where algorithms influence what opportunities\, routes\, and destinations become visible\, and economic displacement from automation and digitalization may prompt migration decisions.\nTransit and border crossing: Where migrants encounter state surveillance technologies\, biometric systems\, and algorithmic screening that can both facilitate and impede movement.\nSettlement: Where digital platforms become crucial for accessing services\, finding employment\, and building social networks\, while potentially perpetuating exclusion through algorithmic bias or inaccessible interfaces.\nLong-term integration and belonging: Where digital literacy\, access to technology\, and digital citizenship systems influence civic participation\, identity formation\, and transnational connections.\n\nBy examining how these technologies create new possibilities for empowerment while simultaneously reinforcing mechanisms of control and exclusion\, the conference seeks to illuminate the dual nature of ADTs in shaping migration today.
